The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has lodged a lawsuit against seven pro-democracy leaders who led a protest pressuring the government to hold a general election. The protest took place on Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue last Saturday. The seven are Rangsiman Rome; Sirawit Serithiwat; Karn Phongpraphan; Anon Nampha; Nattha Mahatthana; Sukrit Piansuwan and Chonthicha Jaengraew, a police source said yesterday. Burin Thongprapai, an army staff judge advocate, who represented the NCPO, lodged a complaint against the first six suspects with Nang Loeng investigators on Tuesday, and later against Ms Chonthicha the following day after a probe indicated she is a key leader of the New Democracy Movement who took part in the demonstration, the source said. The suspects have been accused of breaching the NCPO's order banning political gatherings of more than five people and inciting public discontent against the government.
